Adventure with a Purpose: Abseiling local adventure at Northcliff Hill, Johannesburg
Okay so I know I am this old fossil adventurer and adrenaline junkie but as I have mentioned before I am a bit afraid of heights. It has more to do with the feeling that I have no control than anything else. If I am strapped in and I trust the rigging I am a little more eager to leap off the edge and dangle on a cliff face. So I was really excited to be able to do some abseiling with my long time adventure mate Sean Disney. I trust him completely so knew I would be in safe hands.

It had rained in the days leading up to our mini adventure but it had cleared up on the day to a perfect warm day with a gentle breeze. Perfect conditions actually.I was joined by another old friend Vaughn Patterson and my youngest son Jordan.

This had been a bit of a bucket list for Vaughan and I had recently climbed and summited Seweekspoort Peak, one of SA's 9 Peaks with Sean and Tiaan Liebenberg. This was a really technical climb and hectic. After Seweekspoort Peak Sean said I should be cured of my fear of heights and I must say this was a breeze once I had gone over the first time, the rest was easy.

Safety is paramount with Sean and we had several anchor points and fail safes in place.

We were able to abseil done a few times. Once we reach the bottom we had to make our way up a steep gully, Sean had dropped a rope down for us to anchor ourselves if we needed it. All the indoor wall climbing was coming in handy I managed to scramble up. There is also a path that leads off and snakes its way up to the top some 100m away from where we were. It was a really pretty walk and we passed some beautiful little flowers and butterflies.

It is quiet a drop of the ledge and you get quiet a bit of an adrenaline rush!!
