Adventure with a purpose: The Cause: #trek4hunger2015 The Challenge: Mt Kilimanjaro Day 7 - The charity: Meals on Wheels South Africa
Itinerary - Rongai Route
descend steadily through the moorland, past Mandara hut and through a lush rain forest to the Marangu Park Gate where transport will be waiting to drive you back to Moshe. overnight at the hotel and time for a well deserved hot shower, dinner and relaxation
Nestar gathering the troops for their traditional singing and dancing to thank the Queen of Africa for allowing us to share in her magnificent glory for a short time.
I love this part of the trip and these guys really have great voices and the beat is fantastic!
Khabo and I had this little tradition that each mountain we summited we would do our version of the Gumboot dance. This was the first time I would do it on my own. Was a bit emotional for me and Khabo would have laughed watching me nearly fall over as my legs were so stiff LOL so I could not quiet get the higher kicks in!
Our final farewell and big group photo!
still so much snow on top of Kilimanjaro in the background far left - felt sorry for the guys about to attempt their summit bid as we made our way back to the hotel.
after our farewells we make our final way back down to the main park gate to our waiting combi to take us back for a hot shower and clean cloths!
lots of new found energy and excited chatter with much laughter ensued. And of course we now were armed with advice we could give those trekkers we past would pass along the way.
I had everyone in stitches when I really put my foot in it while giving advice to a young British couple. I asked the young man straight out if he had Vaseline. The looks and silence - his facial expression - priceless. I then proceeded to to him how important Vaseline was while attempting the mountains - from rubbing onto your feet for blister prevention to rubbing it on your feet, hands and face to keep warm. Well lets just say the coupled left rather astonished and my team lay helplessly on the path screeching with laughter. It took me a while to catch on ....
it was initially cool then it got hot as as we got closer to the forest it became a little cold again.

just love all the different colours and scent especially in the morning as we made our way back down.

we found many little streams and the sounds of water the birds and laughter was very welcome

we stopped off here for a breather, clean flushing loos and then made our final ascent through the rain forest. Marcel and Nestar were on a mission to find my favorite flower in the whole of Kilimanjaro - the Kilimanjaro Impatience. I had told the whole team of this incredible little flower.
and here it was - reminds me of a pixie. Just love how it shows off. It doesn't really have a scent.
and through the gates we go! we have achieved our goals and summited - what a fantastic adventure we had had through rain snow and friendships

signing the register and now to wait for our certificates!
