the Adventure with a Purpose team arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport |

3 October 2015: Day 1 - We Departure from South Africa, then we Transfer to the hotel - Mountain Inn - for dinner and overnight. The time had arrived we were at the airport and on our way. For Cheryl, Caryn and I this was not our first time. We all had summits under our belt. Cheryl was taking her teenage son Hayden on his first Kili trip.

I was really excited as this time I was prepared for the cold and what ever the Queen of Africa would through at me. Previously I had relied on sponsorships which did not pan out so this time I saved and worked overtime and did it on my own. It felt really good not to have to wait on others and most climbers will tell you the victory is not standing on the summit but getting the funds and equipment together to get there in the first place.

and then Odie happened - not to be left out of the action |
I had asked my old mate of 16 odd years Sean Disney owner of ADI -Adventure Dynamics International to put this expedition together for me.
The idea for this event was to create as much awareness and hopefully raise a little funds for Meals on Wheels SA. Meals-on-Wheels-Community-Services-South-Africa
Please go to their website for details on how you can assist or donate to this worthy cause.

Thank you Vanessa Yelseth and Willo for once again sponsoring me with a Hero go pro. Hoping to get some great footage on Kili. @Time Frame#trek4hunger #mealsonwheels #kilimanjaro#adventurekimcom #adventurewithapurpose

This is my little ellie, " back-draft" who climbs with me. I love elephants they are incredibly soulful and wise. They connect me to Africa. In African fables the elephant is always the wise chief who impartially settles disputes among the forest creatures. They are revered as a symbol of strength and wisdom, longevity, stamina, mental faculties, cooperative spirit, and loyalty. In South Africa, we use elephant tusks in our coat of arms to represent wisdom, strength, moderation and eternity.

the weather for our summit - heavy snow falls!!

arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport
I had not been to Kilimanjaro International Airport for some time and I was really excited to see that many good changes had occurred. the airport for starters was bigger and was full of tourists. This is great for a country that relies on tourism.
When we arrived to grab out taxi to the hotel the road was filled with tour guides and drivers, We felt like rock stars even though we knew they were not here for us!!
