My 50th Birthday Celebration: watching the sunset celebration 50 years around the sun on Northcliff Hill Johannesburg

I just love sunsets and sunrises and what better way to start and end my 50th Birthday celebrations. So these photos are a little window to my more private time with my family, fun with my Nikon Coolpix L820 and time to just sit and be with the special people in my life that have my heart.
 I did not really want a big birthday bash and have to entertain people and worry about making everything perfect for everyone. I wanted to relax and chill my way and what better way than to take my hubby and three children up to the top of Northcliff Hill to watch the sunset and enjoy some sun downers and snacks. We were treated to a spectacular sunset over Johannesburg's northern suburbs. 
For me sunsets that herald the end of a day and possibilities of a new start tomorrow. This is one of my favorite places a few kilometers from my house, a place I can quickly go to and reflect on the day or a bad shift. The wind blowing my hair, the breathtaking sunsets, the sounds of life carrying on below as the sound carries up, the sound of remote control gliders, the sound of the birds roosting for the night and the smell and feel of the wild grasses and flowers. I can even see my house from here! So grateful I have this small piece of heaven! Northcliff hill - Northcliff Ridge Eco Park








and of course the celebration would not be complete with out our little rescue Odie a wired hair Jack Russel we rescued last year.

The mountains are alive with...chocolate!

  My family recently spent a week at Monk's Cowl camping site, deep in the Drakensberg mountains, and we were blessed to be able to hike every day. We have passed this little spot nestled within the 'Valley", as the locals refer to the area, a couple of times, but never went inside. Today we finally did and what a little bustling area, in the middle of the sticks, supported by both tourists and locals alike.  Beautifully wrapped up chocolate slabs in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. According to the lady behind the counter, who gave us all a detailed description, the white chocolate has a hint of caramel and vanilla bourbon. I love caramel so this was an instant hit with me, and found it sweet and could definitely taste the vanilla bourbon. Next was the dark chocolate, my daughter and husband's favourite chocolate. Russian Adventure: St Basil's cathedral - Red Square

As a little girl I had dreamed and wished that I would be able to see this incredible building before I die and here I was standing in front of this incredible church.   So much myth and legend has followed this breathtaking building and its surprising that little seems to be known about this church.
