Meals on Wheels Malmesbury, Western Cape

Malmesbury Meals on Wheels Community Services (MOWCS) in the Western Cape
The hungry are fed on Tuesdays and Thursdays and even the occasional Sunday. At least 10 people come to the church kitchen at the Malmesbury Seventh Day Adventists’ Church to collect food. Then at two o clock, as the children leave the school gates, the MOW van travels to four different places in the town to hand out meals. They serve at four points on a Tuesday and four points on a Thursday.
In summer they prepare meals; for example, rice and a tuna curry, or mince and rice.
In winter they do soup and bread. Numbers vary but the average is about 140 people per day.
Spar is a food sponsor and sometimes Pick ‘n Pay. Schools get sponsors on board as well.
A small number of recipients are supplied with hampers. For this, Malmesbury MOWCS would appreciate dry goods such as small packets of mealie meal and samp, as well as tinned food and peanut butter.
There is lots of unemployment in the area. People are generally not well educated and either work on the farms or survive on government grants. There are many old people here and unemployment is high.
Malmesbury has some very dedicated volunteers. They are elderly and some are even illiterate. Support from the public will make them feel valued.
