The 9 Peaks Challenge is a truly South African adventure that people from all walks of life can participate in and this adventure will take you across our beautiful country, exploring all nine provinces while climbing the highest peak in each, all in just 10 days.

Adventure with a purpose was created by Kim Williams aka Adventurekim.com and Team Zodwa founder, to enable people to take part in an adventure, push your body to new limits and assist in helping raise awareness and funds for charity,

As proud Ambassadors of Meals on Wheels SA Kim and Jordan, who were the first mother and son team to attempt the SA 9 Peaks, are using Adventure with a purpose to do just that.

on route up towards the mountain

For very little effort and some sweating you are treated to a breathtaking view with rolling hill, mist and a fynbos type of vegetation. The greys, pinks, lilacs, and greens of the vegetation coupled with the mist sweeping in make for an awesome mountain experience. We witnessed a breathtaking sunset that was spectacular beyond measure!!

The village, Haenertsburg was established in 1886 with the discovery of gold by Carl Ferdinand Haenert and is situated on the edge of the Great Escarpment in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, on the R71 road between Polokwane (formerly: Pietersburg) and Tzaneen en route to the Kruger National Park.

Farming and Tourism are the main economic activates on “the Mountain” as the locals fondly refer to Iron Crown, 2126m. The terrain is hilly and Iron Crown is the highest point in Limpopo and is a well-known landmark.

The lush vegetation and stunning afromontane forest patches along the kloofs (gullies) with rolling grasslands (Woodbush Granite Grassland) are testament to the frequent mist and relatively high rainfalls experienced here. FROHG (Friends of the Haenertsburg Grasslands) help to conceive the indigenous flora and fauna. Funds are raised to create educational materials, maintain hiking trails, and remove invasive alien plants and alert the authorities to illegal developments like bulldozing of pipelines, fencing and squatting.

This beautiful and scenic region attracts many tourists and is a firm favorite with cyclists, bikers and fishing enthusiasts. The Ebenezer Dam nearby plays, host too many water sports.

The 20th steepest mountain pass in South Africa is found here, the Mogoebaskloof pass, which gains/losers 336m in altitude in 5.15km.

Haenertsburg is famous for the annual Spring Fair where many crafts and flower displays are exhibited. July sees the advent of their Holistic Fair which exhibits the many diverse and talented creations lovingly created by the Mountain Folk.
