Rating the Trails with my Jimny and my boys: Mission to find the right Toringkop Peak - Highest point in Gauteng.

Rating the Trails with my Jimny and my boys: Mission to find Toringkop!

This time we were on a mission to discover which was Toringkop, the highest point in Gauteng and one of the SA 9 Peaks for our challenge. According to the pamphlets the highest peaks is at number 4 (painted white on the tarred road) which is actually the second highest peak - Perdekop!!
check the baboon out on the left on top of the wall!!
This is the actual Toringkop peak!! The boys race each other to the top.

and we are at the top of Gauteng!

the Highest peak is were the weather beacon is. This was important to find out as we were about to undertake a mammoth task and climb the highest point in each of our 9 provinces and climbing the wrong peak would jeopardize the whole mission!
and the laughter starts as we realise the mistake on the Nature Reserves map and pamphlets!!
Jordan and I on the summit of the highest peak in Gauteng, Toringkop!
Jordan and Mitch brothers in arms on Toringkop.

After we had summited both just in case. We came back the following weekend with an expert and equipment and verified which peak was higher. conclusion: the Peak no 04 is not Toringkop but Perdekop and the peak labeled Perdekop on the map and pamphlet was infact the highest point in Gauteng, Toringkop!!
we all piled into the Jimny and made our way to Perdekop!

and the boys race again to get to the summit!!
and finally on the summit of Perdekop.
so the beacon on Perdekop is somewhat more impressive than Toringkop!

 Toringkop far in the distance.

now it was time for that boy thing of picking up the biggest rock we can find and placing it on the cairn. this had become a bit of a tradition with my two boys!

done and now its time to check out the masterpiece!

we are done time to head off back to the Jimny

back on the road and making notes of markers and landmarks for future reference!
Now that we had summited it was off along 60 km of meandering roads through the Nature Reserve.

the cloud formations and contrasting colours in the sky and open land is stunning!

 so so beautiful!!
We were blessed to see antelope and sever wildebeest.

some driving fun along some of the off road bits!!

what a great time spent with my two boys outdoors with nature. So very blessed with our beautiful country.

Warmest and take care
