Mongena Game Lodge Overview Part 1

Mongena Game Lodge
The malaria-free, game lodge has 63 beds and is situated in the North-western section of the big five Dinokeng Game Reserve. Its a short 30 minute drive (50 km north of Pretoria/Tshwane in the Gauteng Province.) From Johannesburg it took us around an hour (about 70km from Randburg).

It had been a long time since I had stayed at a Game Lodge and I was really looking forward to spending  three days in the bush!!

It is accessible by tarred roads and has a private tarred airstrip.. It boasts 4 stars and guarantees a bush safari without equal for the international business or leisure traveller with time constraints.

Lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, zebra, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, all antelope species, warthogs, aardvark, brown hyena, aardwolf and splendid bird watching making for an excellent game viewing in the very distinctive African Bush.

it rained most of the weekend creating some fantastic skies and sunsets.

The lodge is nestled on a 28 hectare scenic dam flanked by the Pienaars and Boekenhout rivers where sunset cruises and bass fishing is offered.

A stunning boathouse venue for private functions and boma dinners.

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained!

The lodge is named after the Boekenhout tree, which is indigenous to the area.

we also had visitors of a striped kind, with her foal. I love Zebra's so this was a real treat!

The resident Nyala herd living on the gardens of the main lodge have become the trademark for mongena bringing delight to both young and old alike.

on the property you will find a state-of-the art conference centre, boardrooms, an a la carte 5 star Kingfisher Restaurant and a romantic wedding chapel.

I   was thrilled to find out that they also do their bit for Social Awareness.
“PRUDEC
Mongena Game Lodge has been associated with the Perseverance Rural Development Centre (PRUDEC), a registered non-profit organization situated in neighbouring Hammanskraal township, for a few years now as part of Mongena’s social responsibility and outreach programme. The Centre provides home-based care programmes, literacy classes to the elderly, counseling and support services to those infected with HIV/AIDS, feeding scheme for orphans and vulnerable children and many more community based services. Mongena in conjunction with other sponsors donates food on a monthly basis for the orphans and vulnerable children who visit the soup kitchen at the Centre.
In the winter school holidays Mongena Game Lodge invited 180 learners from the Centre to experience a Big 5 Game Drive in the Dinokeng Game Reserve. The children were offered an opportunity to learn more about their environment and wildlife by embarking on this complimentary educational game drive. Blankets were also donated to the elderly people of the community.”
All in all it was a great experience with a fantastic game drive, a sunset drive, a boma experience, a wedding, lots of game viewing, great food and a fantastic game walk amongst the Big Five.
Accommodation was clean and very comfortable. There is an "outside" pup which has a big screen so all the men could watch rugby.
I would give it an Adveneturekim.com rating of 9/10 and would definetly recommend you pay Mongena Game Lodge a visit.
I have separated the blogs on Mongena into: the Wedding Experience, the Game Drive, The Game Walk and the Boma Lake Sunset Experience.
