Camera fun: Patterns in grass -

Patterns in the grass
Photographs taken with my Nikon Coolpix L820

there is nothing more beautiful than the black and white stripes of our beloved zebras racing across the plains of Africa.
I love Zebras and their stips all so different from each other have alway been a source of pure fascination for me growing up in Africa.

why do zebras have stripes - scientist are not sure but their are many theories one of them being for protection. When they are out in the plains grouped together,  it becomes difficult  for a lion or leopard to pick out one single zebra to chase!!

they may distort from a distance at dawn and dusk

they may dissuade insects that recognise only large areas of single-coloured fur or act as a kind of natural sunscreen!

Just like human fingerprints the zebra's stripe pattern is unique to the individual - no tow are exactly alike - although each of the three species has its own general pattern.

Because of this uniqueness, stripes may also help zebras recognize one another.

No animal has a more distinctive coat than the awesome zebra.

Each mare recognizes her own foal by smell for the first few days and then by sight by its stripe pattern.

they have excellent eyesight because they are ungulates their eyes sit on the side of their head.

Scientist believe that zebras have some fascination with their stripes. there are accounts that even black and white stripes painted on a flat surface will attract them in groups.
