Adventurekim Rating: Montecasino Bird Park South Africa: Overview
Montecasino Bird Park, Johannesburg South Africa.
I had visited the Bird Park some years back and it was fantastic then. Today however I was really blown away with all the new interactive additions and this park is truly a little gem tucked away in Fourways.
I took my son along with me and had several really special interactions with the birds and lemurs.

The entrance is very pretty and you are welcomed with lush green grass and stunning displays of flowers..
We had a light late lunch at the Cafe Flamingo. It can
seat 90 people and it overlooks the Flamingo Pond. We were also treated to some
antics from various peacocks and ducks. Check out next blog on Lunchtime friends and
Proud as a Peacock for the stunning photographs This venue also caters for
children's birthday parties (max 30 people). For bookings contact Richard on

To our delight we found two
walk-through Aviaries and they boast over 60 species of birds including the
spectacular Scarlet Ibises, Nicobar pigeons, reptiles and small mammals, with
smaller antelope wandering freely amongst the undergrowth! The 2nd aviary
is a Flight Avery and is therefore much larger and we spent a lot of time here
with the awesome Lemurs!!

We them came across the magnificent Macaws and Cockatoos
that roam freely in the Parrot Gallery. They love to pose and their colours are
breathtaking!! Check the photographs in my blog: Party Parrots!

The park is the only Bird Park of its
kind in Africa and its really a gem!!
This is a fantastic family outing and
we found ourselves walking along gorgeous walkways with beautiful flower displays and we were in complete awe of the variety of spectacular and colourful birds,
many within our reach.
They also have many mammals, reptiles and unusual animals
from around the world.

We discovered the garden also has one of the largest and
most diverse private collection of South African Cycads in the world, with over
750 plants from 37 different species including one of the oldest surviving
plants, Encephalartos middelburgensis, estimated to be over 2500
years old.
One of the highlights was been able to feed the tame,
brightly coloured Rainbow Lorikeets in the Lorikeet Aviary. We stocked up on nectar
from the ticket office and even went back for more. We suggest 2 or 3
containers as the birds are very clever and ignore you the minute the tub is empty
and you miss out on photo opportunities. Check my blog: Colour Burst feeding frenzy!
