uShaka Sea World Adventure

uShaka Sea World, the 5th largest aquarium in the world, boasts 32 tanks, combined they carry 17,500 cubic meters of water.

behind the scenes...
The underground aquarium is designed around 5 shipwrecks creating a rather spectacular sight and we were enthralled especially my two sons and hubby. Ahoy there Captain Jack Sparrow down we go matte!!

The entrance is through an above ground "Phantom ship" This huge skeleton of a whale was on display and it is really huge!

This contains several restaurants including the famous "Cargo Hold" Restaurant.                                                                                                      It has a wall sized shark aquarium visible from most of the dining area and a "Upper Deck," with views of the open sea exhibits that surround the "ship" (note the three photos inside the restaurants are off google)

This huge and really beautiful aquarium is home to many shark species such as the ragged-tooth sharks, spinner sharks, hammerhead sharks, and local cat sharks.

The Aquarium is also home to many large rays including the eagle rays, local moray species as well as the honeycomb morays and geometric morays.

Large game fish species including giant groupers, potato bass, kingfish and cobia abound in huge tanks. Apparently a Manta ray was housed her for a short time before it was moved to the Georgia Aquarium in the USA they don’t tell us why.

Fish, sea animals of all colours imaginable, both vivid and electric in colour grace the giant glass walls taking you into a spectacular “under the sea” world. One half expects Arial or Nemo to dart past and share a tale or two with you.

Inside the depths of the ship is cold and dark with authentic looking rusting walls as one would expect in a huge ships bowels.

The darkness creates a visual fantasy world against the natural lighting from above into the huge tanks.

A lot of time and trouble has gone into creating a really magical experience, one that I will come back and thoroughly enjoy again.

My old mother was like a little child again, gasping and oohing with delight at the brightly coloured little fish putting on a show and dancing against the light just for her!

We also found many weird and incredible sea creatures in the smaller tanks the lighting in here is incredible and enhances the beauty of these little creatures.

A real sight to behold.

and then we came across the stunning sea turtles who put on such a show for us. so blessed and privilege to have been able to capture them.

and then we watched the Underwater Adventures from below - the snorkelers in the lagoon exploring the shipwreck and beautifully coloured fish

then we watched as the shark divers experience their close encounter with one of the sea great creatures.

it was really awesome to watch definitely on the list for next time we visit uShaka!!

This shark was so white and was already waiting for the cage diver and a tasty morsel!

the little tanks are endless with such breathtaking displays of many colourful fish, shells, and little creatures

and I was so excited to see the seahorses. Love these little creatures.

then we came across these stunning star fish!

these giant crabs were very funny to watch!

We moved in between the inside of the ship and were swirled into a world of magic bubbles, electric colours and mysterious little creatures.

and so ended our under the sea adventure beneath the depths of the bowels of a ship. this was such an amazing experience and left us all in awe and wonder at the magic beneath the sea that we do not often experience firsthand.
