Over the weekend one of the youth were arrested as a suspect to house breaking. It wasn't long when some of the team got to hear about it and they marched off to the police station together with the ladies from the soup kitchen to inform the cops that no way could he been involved. "He was working with us" they said, we can supply timesheet and pics - a team pulling together.
The guy who had been arrested told us he was so surprised by everyone coming to stand by him.
we have grown really fond of this community - there is still a lot of work to be done in this community.
Today we did some training - explaining how a community should operate, and how if we all worked together, we can make a change.
Change Agents in the Moffat View community
Youth were given the task of taking newspaper, cellotape and straws to build a nest for their raw egg - which symbolises the children and the nest the community. The nest has to protect the egg is all they were told.
The best designer nests seen on this training!!

Comments : 'Ons kind is dood'. 'Our baby only cracked - just a bit of blood - a broken leg'

The youth had chance to speak to the Sector Manager Mtshalala from SAPS who attended part of the training together with Bev Turk the Ward Councilor.
We mentioned we should invite a member from CPF (Community Policing Forum)next time - then asked the youth who the CPF are - collective answer - 'Coloureds patrolling on foot' - love their sense of humor.
Then it was lunch time and all were served a beautiful spread
Trust exercise- lifting a man with 2 fingers each - surprise, surprise if we all work together we can work wonders.

Capitec bank came and helped the youth open bank accounts.
I then arrived with my little Suzuki Jimny full of clothing, pots and pans, toys etc donated by Cygnets Nursery School in Bedfordview - for which we are all grateful.

The youth were going to pay a visit to the Shammah Safe House and were insistent they had to first sort out the parcels sent from Cygnets Nursery School so that they could take some toys along.
They still had enough energy to go to Meals on Wheels Rifle Range and sort donated food.

Unfortunately not all fresh foods donated is edible.

What is not edible is used for composting - nothing goes to waste.
The group are currently making compost for a garden project next week.
And, at long last the days work is done.
You guys are awesome!!
