Storm over the Sea

I love storms, I love to watch them build up and love listening to the sound of rolling distant thunder. Its magical watching the storm clouds gather and smelling that magical impending rain and electric storm in the air. I was lucky enough to capture one of these storms over the sea with my three children. The family was on vacation in Durban South Africa and we decided to go for a cup of coffee on the beach front and then take in the storm we could see building over the Indian Ocean. This is the result....

The reflections on the water and sand...

One of the many cargo ships not far from the harbour entrance

A harbour tugboat blowing off steam

The many yachts fighting the gusting winds their sails looking more like shark fins on the horizon.

The many fisherman still on the pier....

the many colours of blues, greys, white and lilacs of the building storm clouds over a spectacular backdrop.

the clouds building over the holiday apartments and hotels on the beachfront.

the very talented sand sculptors on the beachfront with their beautiful work.

in the thick of the crashing waves, while the pier moans against the mighty strength of the sea
the wind picks up and the games begin for the yachtsman.

the sea turns an ominous grey with beautiful teals and greens creating drama against the railings
enchanted lilacs and greys of the changing storm clouds.
the dancing light and shadows

a rescue helicopter flies over head against a dramatic storm sky

we watch as the helicopter moves on and soon it was time to get off the beach and out of the storm to the beachfront Wimpy for some great cappuccinos to watch the storm through the windows as the rain thrashed against the glass creating deafening sounds and so ended our sea storm adventure.
