Niko Studio's Lassi - the place to stay




We arrived on Monday from the airport exhausted and in dire need of a hot shower and some sleep!
Katharina had arranged for a taxi to collect us from the airport (he was a really friendly guy and very knowledgeable on all things Kefalonia.) and bring us to our lodging for the next 8 days.


Katharina and Renos are fantastic hosts and are passionate about making their quests feel welcome and right at home on their piece of paradise. 







My husband and I waited 28 years for our Greek Island Honeymoon. We came to Kefalonia for our
second honeymoon, a family "my fat Greek Wedding" - all the guests came from all over the world and from South Africa to share this special wedding of my "baby" Greek Brother. Finally I was also to climb Mt Ainos - the highest peak of the Ionic Islands and one of Europe's Ultras. I am an adventurer and climb mountains for charity and my mission was to place the Meals on wheels  Flag (I am their Ambassador), the SA flag and my own Team Zodwa 9 Peaks Challenge flag on the summit. This is one really spectacular and beautiful mountain. Certainly the mountain of the gods!!

Niko studio's was affordable, super clean, comfortable and close (walking distance) to all the restaurants, shops and beautiful beaches.Free Wi-Fi is also available so I was able to keep in touch with our children and  send many beautiful pictures.  Each room is unique and tastefully decorated in a fresh modern Greek Island feel.


 


 

We found ourselves very central and only a short 10 minute walk from the capital Agostolli.This was a dream come true and magic happens every morning in the breakfast room. Katharina's culinary skills will delight the taste buds and the spread is scrumptious with homemade luxurious jams and spreads, fruit and cheeses. The coffee and cappuccinos are out of this world and the freshly squeezed orange juice is delicious and  leaves you refreshed for the busy or lazy day ahead. 
 

 

 

 

 



 Katharina and Renos support the local industry and have many stunning handmade soaps with olive oil and other essential oils added. Some jams as well as the locally made olive oil (Katharina is a graphic designer by trade and designed the stunning labels herself as well as did all the decor for all the beautifully decorated rooms. Renos has one very talented wife!!Renos and his brother did the awesome handywork)


When my husband took ill, Katharina and Renos sprung into action, with Renos taking us in their private car to Agostolli to the pharmacy to get anti-biotics for a chest infection. Our every need and whim was catered for and I cannot begin to praise Niko Studio's enough except to say I hope one day we can be back with our three children to share some island magic.

They offer huge value for money and the cost of staying at Niko Studios was less than our day to day living expenses. 


The stunning beaches are close by and our favorite and I think the most beautiful of these beaches is just below Niko Studios and to the right of the Dolphin Supermarket.


 This Supermarket was our little lifeline and we bought our supplies from them daily for our lunch and odd dinner, if we did not eat out.  We enjoyed several dinners on our balcony overlooking the sea and witnessed many gorgeous sunsets
.
 


 






We were treated to a real Greek Island atmosphere and experience and highly recommend Niko Studios to couples or families.

The mountains are alive with...chocolate!

  My family recently spent a week at Monk's Cowl camping site, deep in the Drakensberg mountains, and we were blessed to be able to hike every day. We have passed this little spot nestled within the 'Valley", as the locals refer to the area, a couple of times, but never went inside. Today we finally did and what a little bustling area, in the middle of the sticks, supported by both tourists and locals alike.  Beautifully wrapped up chocolate slabs in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. According to the lady behind the counter, who gave us all a detailed description, the white chocolate has a hint of caramel and vanilla bourbon. I love caramel so this was an instant hit with me, and found it sweet and could definitely taste the vanilla bourbon. Next was the dark chocolate, my daughter and husband's favourite chocolate.
