Kilimanjaro - finally the Summit!!

When we arrived at the summit itself I could not believe that I had just but my body, my soul through 13 hours of cheating the devil and beating the mountain's monster for this. Is this it.  A few rocks, on ash and a pole that said - "Welcome to Africa's highest point", the highest freestanding mountain in the world. I was crushed. There was no band, no pom-pom girls, no coffee, no hot chocolate and marshmallows and certainly no fireworks, not even tears.

Rachel and I waited for Khabo to arrive and let her sit on the summit first. She broke down and wept, with joy and relief. It was done. We had reach the summit, and we were alive, broken, blind, crazy but alive.

Frank started to sing the ABBA hit, I have a dream, we joined choking in between tears as we took photos of our T-shirts, our charity T-shirts, SA Flag, Our Team Zodwa flag, our departmental flag and Rachel's dog Hope's rescue jacket. We spent an 1 hour and a half on the summit.

The relief to walk away from the summit and make our way back to base camp was overwhelming.  We were tired out of our minds. This was an adventure of a epic nature. We had battled the elements and had been rewarded with the most spectacular views for as far as the eye could see, views that were breathtaking and beyond imaginations or comprehension. This was indeed another world another realm.

The other half of Team Zodwa that had summited a few hours earlier !!

The whole team had now summited. Half the team was almost back to base camp and we would still have another adventure of our own!
