Raising funds for the Meals on Wheels

Randpark Ridge resident Jordan Williams (15) will be the youngest member of the team which will climb Mount Kilimanjaro, to celebrate the 50th birthday of Meals on Wheels Community Services. The Meals on Wheels, is a non-profit organisation which provides cooked meals to the poor, vulnerable persons and the elderly.
Williams will join other climbers on their 5 895 meter quest from 31 May till 8 June. Jordan aims to plant the Meals on Wheels flag at the top of the mountain and hopes this excursion to Tanzania, Africa will raise funds for the organisation.
He will be joined by his mother Kim who will also climb Mount Kilimanjaro. “Each climber has to raise R10 000 for the organisation and the cost of the trip is R32 000 per person. We plan to raise R250 000,” explained Kim.
The team is in partnership with Adventure Dynamics International managing director Sean Disney. Disney has reached the summit of Mount Everest twice.
Kim is a fire fighter and paramedic in Hillbrow and is a member of the Zodwa Fire and Ice team. “We are a group of women who always wear pink and take on adventurous challenges.”
Jordan has raised the R10 000 but still needs to raise R32 000. “I went to the organisation’s soup kitchen in Moffat View and I realised how privileged I am and I wanted to do something good for them, and I then started to meet sponsors. This will be the first time the Meals on Wheels flag will be

The mountains are alive with...chocolate!

  My family recently spent a week at Monk's Cowl camping site, deep in the Drakensberg mountains, and we were blessed to be able to hike every day. We have passed this little spot nestled within the 'Valley", as the locals refer to the area, a couple of times, but never went inside. Today we finally did and what a little bustling area, in the middle of the sticks, supported by both tourists and locals alike.  Beautifully wrapped up chocolate slabs in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. According to the lady behind the counter, who gave us all a detailed description, the white chocolate has a hint of caramel and vanilla bourbon. I love caramel so this was an instant hit with me, and found it sweet and could definitely taste the vanilla bourbon. Next was the dark chocolate, my daughter and husband's favourite chocolate.
