Team Zodwa recently took part in a mountain climbing challenge to raise funds for the Meals on Wheels Community Services (MOWCS).
The challenge involved climbing the nine highest peaks in South Africa.
The plan was hatched since MOWCS is celebrating its 50th anniversary. MOWCS provides cooked meals to over 1.5-million people each month, in a bid to alleviate poverty and suffering.
Team Zodwa member and Greenstone resident, Irene Rügheimer, said her team decided to take part in the challenge to assist the community organisation with much-needed funds.
“The target was set at R250 000, but we are still waiting for the exact figures from pledges made,” she said.
From April 23 to 30, Team Zodwa attempted the challenge, and became the first women’s team to attempt the nine peaks challenge.
The group only managed to climb eight of the peaks; Mafadi in Kwazulu-Natal was postponed due to poor weather.
Team Zodwa consists of Irene Rügheimer, Kim Williams, Pamela Buckl, Sanelisiwe Zamaphondla and was formed in 2005.
